Overview / Introduction
So, you want to be published? Good for you. There are few things as satisfying as seen your own hard work in print, and available to a large market of potential readers. All those hours of writing, editing, rewriting, and more rewriting finally pay off in tangible form.
Getting published is a real process, however, and not an easy one. Mainstream publishing houses will likely ignore your manuscript submissions, and send you nicely-worded rejection letters. For most unknown or new authors, self-publishing is the only real and viable method for getting your first works in print. Unlike a decade or so ago, self-publishing has become a legitimate and practical method for seeing your book reach the market. In the past, it was referred to as "vanity publishing" - a way to fulfil your ego's needs. It was also a way to see your garage filled with five hundred or more books that would not sell. It was not a particularly enticing concept.
The past decade, in contrast, has seen self-publishing hit its stride. Many self-published authors have gone on to great success in terms of sales, exposure, and contracts with larger mainstream publishing houses. The introduction of print-on-demand eliminated the need and huge expense of printing large quantities of books. You can now make your book available for sale, and order single copies at a time. As a side benefit, your book is always "in stock," as printing up new copies happens within only a day or two.
Online book sales are at an all-time high, with retailers like Amazon.com selling traditionally-published and self-published books to millions of readers. It's a great time to take advantage of the interest, and put your book on the market.
What we do
There are many self-publishing companies and options available. Knowing which one to choose can be a daunting task in itself. Creating your book according to industry standards and preparing the interior content and cover design so it is ready for the press is more complex yet. It requires a good understanding of layout conventions, and the use of professional design toolsfor attractive cover layouts. For many new authors, this creates a huge roadblock that prevents them from following through on the dream of being published.
Various self-publishing companies will do much of this work for you, but usually at significant cost. New authors, by and large, do not have $2,000 - $5,000 on hand for this process. Like most new authors, your book likely needs to be printed on a shoestring budget. That's where we come in.
Marnick Press has self-published several books for its founder, and a number for other authors. We are well familiar with the design and layout process, and the requirements that printers demand before a book goes to press. We've set up books for sale on Amazon, had them placed on other eStore locations, and sold them privately. We can guide your precious manuscript through the development and printing process on your behalf. Your job will be to write the book, and then promote and sell the book. The rest is done for you.
We offer a range of services, and some or all may be of interest to you, depending on the status of your manuscript. Click the links below for more details.
